What Are Tooth Gems?

Tooth gems are jewels attached to the surface of your teeth with a powerful adhesive, which is designed to hold them in place for 6+ months. For some, one small stone is applied to the center of the tooth. For others, a jewel-encrusted cap is placed on an entire tooth or an entire row of teeth. People usually prefer to use them on their visible teeth to enhance the cosmetic effect of their smiles.

How Long Do Tooth Gems Last?

They usually have a lifespan of about 6 months, but can sometimes last longer. If they come off sooner than that, the wearer was not following the aftercare instructions.

Do Tooth Gems Hurt?

Since it’s merely attached to the tooth enamel, it doesn’t hurt. The process is quick & painless. There is no drilling or filing of the natural tooth. The tooth is prepped and the gem is glued on with a dental adhesive. A UV light is used to cure the glue and you are on your way.

A Timeless Trend

While getting gems stuck on your teeth might seem like a new trend, tooth ornamentation has been in practice for centuries. In fact, the British Dental Association Museum has a Mayan tooth in its collection that has a green jade inlay.

How Do I Care for My New Tooth Gem?
  • Don’t touch the crystal.
  • Don’t eat for one hour after the crystal is applied, you may drink immediately.
  • Only eat soft foods for the first 12 hours.
  • Don’t brush your teeth for 12 hours.
  • If you will be using an electric toothbrush, wait for 24 hours before brushing.
